Before making a decision the buyer should carefully consider the amount of light, air and privacy best suited to their needs. After the final purchase is made the homeowner can later add extra window treatments as needed.
Type of Windows
There are four types of replacement windows that open in different ways. The double-hung style is divided in two movable sections with a bottom pane that rises and a top pane that lowers. Sliding windows are mounted on a runner and open from side to side. The casement and awning style come with a handle or lever that opens the window outward. Bay or bow windows have three or four panels that extend from the wall and opens to the outside.
Grid Styles
The replacement windows found in Houston are available in four grid styles. The Colonial, with its four, six or nine panes are the most popular choice among decorators and homeowners. The diamond style adds elegance to any room with its fancy criss-crossed pattern. The prairie cut has a pattern of overlapping bars on the inner portion of the window and the double prairie has a similar pattern with two sets of bars.
Moulding
The buyer should consider whether they want the windows in their home to blend in or stand out when choosing moulding. Bright contrasting colors will make a room appear sharp, while matching colors will give the room a more subdued look.

After installing the replacement windows, the contractor should always explain their proper care to the homeowner. He should also demonstrate how to open, close and remove the windows.
